Just four racing dates remain in the Meadowlands Racetrack’s championship meet. Both of the track's ‘jackpots’ have recently paid out. That being the case, officials with the Meadowlands have announced that the track will discontinue both its early and late Jackpot Super High Five wagers for the duration of the meet.
The late Jackpot Super High Five had gone unclaimed for the entire season, dating back to November. A mandatory payout was established on July 16 after the jackpot carryover had swelled to $267,769. Nearly $750,000 in new money was wagered to create a seven-figure total pool. A total of 276 winning tickets each returned $3,269.52 for the 20-cent wager.
The early Jackpot Super High Five has been hit five times dating back to November, and was most recently hit this past Saturday night for a season-high $47,949.
Racetrack officials had hoped to offer a mandatory payout of the early Jackpot Super High Five wager on Hambletonian Day, but with the recent payout and only a few days to grow the jackpot, the track has decided to cancel the wager and allow horseplayers to focus their wagering dollars on the other large wagering pools.
