James Romano Passes

Horseman James P. Romano, 84, of Galloway Township, passed away on Wednesday, July 22 at his residence.

Romano was born in Brooklyn, NY and was an owner, driver, and trainer at Freehold Raceway for over 50 years before his retirement.

Surviving are two daughters, Catherine Leavy and Mary Jane Gad; four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Veronica’s Church, Howell on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by entombment at St. Gabriel’s Mausoleum, Marlboro Township.

Memorial donations to the American Heart Association would be appreciated.
