Jack Irwin Passes

Trot Insider has been informed that Standardbred horseman Jack Neil Irwin, of Belleville, Ont., passed away at the Kingston General Hospital on Friday, July 19 at the age of 77.

Jack will be dearly missed by his loving wife of over 50 years, Laurel (Johnson), as well as his two children, Gord and Tammy Irwin, both of Belleville.

Jack was predeceased by his parents, Gordon T. Irwin and Marjorie (Steenburgh) Irwin, and his brother, James R Irwin.

Jack also leaves three brothers – Gordon Irwin (Pat) of Grafton, Ont., David Irwin (Damaris) of Belleville, Ont. and Clifford Irwin (Lynn) of Stirling, Ont. – and one sister, Linda Baker of Belleville, Ont. Jack is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Jack worked for Purolator for many years and was also actively involved in local harness racing with his father, brothers and son. When it came to racehorses, some of the most notable names that Jack was associated with include Place Mat, Fly Bye Susie, Rossland Steven and Shebucto.

Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life to be held on Saturday, July 27 at the CAW Union Hall, 160 Catherine St. Belleville, Ont., from 1-3 p.m.

My sincere condolences to Gord and all the rest of Jack's family. I still have many memories of all the good times at the Belleville Fairgrounds.
