Robert Reid Passes

Robert B. Reid, 75, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away on Monday, July 18 in Parry Sound, Ont.

He was born August 2, 1940, in Buffalo, N.Y., to the late Gerald and Phyllis (Wood) Reid. He graduated from Hope College in Holland, Mich., where he lettered in baseball and basketball.

In 1964, he moved to Mansfield, where he met most of his longtime friends and started his career at Gold Bond Building Products. He then was employed as the national sales manager for Magnum Products. He didn’t just have customers, but lifelong friends and business associates throughout the United States.

He was a competitive athlete, who continued to play softball, basketball and golf his entire life.

He immensely enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, Florida, going on cruises, and being around his Standardbred racehorses. The family cabin in Canada was his favourite place to visit.

Reid had friends in every aspect of his life; fraternity brothers, softball friends, and business friends. He was a very generous and giving person, he valued the time he spent with his family. His favourite past time of all was creating wonderful memories over the years with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by four children, Robert S., Jane (Joe) Eagleston, Susan Shafer and Gerald (Susan); stepchildren, Tim Dennison and Margie Dennison; grandchildren, Bobby, Brian, Morgan, Kristi Walter, Abby Shafer, Tucker (Brandey) Peterson, Wade Peterson, Jared, McKenna, Brooke Dennison, Erica (Cody) Hawkins, Dalton Dennison, Dillon Dennison, and Zachariah Vance; great-grandchildren, Drew Walter, Kylie Walter, Rebecca Peterson and Amelia Peterson; and special friend, Kate Welch and her grandson, Caiden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sonni; stepson, Scott Dennison; and grandson, Cameron Hammond.

Visitation will be held on Sunday (July 24) from 1-5 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield, OH 44092. A funeral service will be held on Monday (July 25) at 10 a.m., also at the Diamond Street Home. Burial will follow at Mansfield Cemetery.
