The contents of the ORC release appear below.
Ontario Racing Commission Moves To The Ministry Of Government Services
The Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) will be reporting to the Ministry of Government Services (MGS), effective immediately. MGS is well placed to work with the ORC during this period of change, as it is responsible for providing oversight and advice to all government ministries on agency governance and accountability.
Conversations and meetings between commission and ministry personnel, including Minister Takhar, are already underway.
“The objective is to get MGS up to speed as quickly as possible,” said ORC Chair Rod Seiling.
Will agree with Randy that
Will agree with Randy that its the beginning of the demise of the ORC as we know it. Won't agree however that we will only have 2 or 3 racetracks. I'm quite confident that McGuinty is seeing the light of day, putting Dwighty in his place and also seeing that our industry can be self regulated to a degree that doesn't require the existing budget that we now have in place to oversee our business. I am more confident than ever that things are starting to turn around and that the Report that will come down by the end of August will be more positive than anyone in the past has hoped it would be. Also it will be in time for the Thoroughbred sale the first week of September and the Standardbred sale the following week. Together we can make this government understand that they have made a big big mistake. Any Casino's will be on racetracks and they will be administered by an existing Canadian operator. My thoughts for a beautiful Saturday morning. Happy Racing
Too bad we couldn't go one
Too bad we couldn't go one step further and move the regulation of Horse Racing from Provincial to Federal jurisdiction. Our Registry is Federal "Standardbred Canada", why can't we push for Federal takeover of the Horse Racing in Canada. If Gambling comes under Federal Law, then let's push for one set of rules across Canada, and see if the Federal Government is interested in the 1.3 billion dollars annually generated from racing here in Ontario, that the Provincial Government seems to think it no longer wants or "needs"!!!

Great idea Carolyn. Any suggestion who should get this started. We still need to move quickly.
Don't just email your MPP
Don't just email your MPP Email your MP as well. If enough MP 's get on board with our struggles then the Minister of Finance could get involved.
I received a lot of insight from my MP's office today. You have nothing to lose but your jobs and lively hood!!!So don't be a mushroom getting crapped on, speak up to your local council as well as your MPP's and MP's. The public just hears about the subsidies we supposedly receive, and nothing about the revenue the government gets from the tax from the wagering from the races. Instead of crying and complaining be proactive. My dad always said you get out what you put in. Great advice.
Likely the beginning of the
Likely the beginning of the end for the ORC ........ why do we need an Ontario Racing Commission for 2 or 3 tracks - assuming the Liberals get their way !
