School’s out and if you’re looking for something different to do with the kids, you’ll want to bring them over to Grand River Raceway on Friday, July 17 for an action packed night of fun and activities, highlighted by the Giddy Up & Gallop half mile race around the racetrack!
The Giddy Up Race is for kids between the ages of five and 14. It will take place at approximately 6:50 p.m. (after the second horse race) and will benefit the Community Resources Centre of North & South Wellington.
Registration can be completed online here or in person the day of the event, starting at 5:30 p.m. The first 75 registered will receive a free souvenir t-shirt. There will be a complimentary snack and awards ceremony with certificates for all participants following the event and unique horseshoe trophies for the winners in each category.
There will also be a Mascot Race prior to the kids running the track!
Kids entered in Giddy Up will also be able to sign up for the Wanna Drive program and take a spin around the track in a double seated jog cart with a trainer /driver in between races! All runners will be able to take part in a winner’s circle presentation (Race 5) and a behind the scenes barn tour! All kids are welcome to spend time in the NEIGHbourhood tent, where there is a free interactive horse education program for kids that includes arts and crafts, games and more from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
These events are part of Grand River’s popular Fun & Frivolity Friday Race night. Friends and family can gather in the grandstand or trackside to cheer on their runners; it will also be televised in house and shown as a part of the track’s live broadcast.
