Red Shores’ Thursday CDP Preview

One of the toughest groups of pacing mares located east of Toronto will battle for top honours Thursday night at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park.

First-race post time for the 12-dash program is 7 p.m.

The program boasts a Fillies and Mares Open (Race 11) which will feature Bunny Mach and General Luckypercy – fresh off victories in the Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares series Saturday at Summerside Raceway – and a U.S. invader added into the mix.

Bunny Mach will be looking to extend her two-race win streak from Post 7 for trainer-driver Jason Hughes and owners Donald and Steven MacRae of Vernon Bridge. She will face off against Andro Madi (PP3, Dale Spence) and General Luckypercy (PP4, Brian MacPhee). For All We Know, who is a newcomer to Charlottetown, will start from Post 1 for driver Ron Matheson, trainer Jackie Matheson and owner Bruce Wood of Marshfield. The seven-year-old Rocknroll Hanover mare boasts $154,703 in lifetime earnings and a mark of 1:53.1, which was taken at the Meadows in Pennsylvania, and was racing a $12,500 claimer at Yonkers Raceway in New York. JK Special (to be driven by Walter Cheverie), Stayoutofmyaffair (Kenny Arsenault), Brodys Leona (Corey MacPherson) and Veronicavermillion (Brodie MacPhee) will complete the field.

A compact field of six Open trotters will compete in Race 4 for a $1,850 purse. Four of the entrants have been winners in the Open class in the past few weeks, and classifier Gerard Smith has selected Zip The Lip as the morning line favourite from Post 2. Brian MacPhee will drive for co-owner and trainer Donald Sweet and co-owner Orville Willis, both of O’Leary. He will get all he can handle from his competition, which includes Pleasure Girls (Cheverie), Caliban Hanover (Ron Gass), Lyrical Lindy (Jason Hughes), Saulsbrook Balance (Willie Murphy) and Abundaspin (Harold Shepherd).

The ‘back-up pace’ will have a field of six competing for a $2,000 purse. Carnivore (Marc Campbell) is favoured, fresh off a 1:55.1 victory this past Saturday night at Summerside, while his main challenges will come from Judge Jon (Mike Stevenson) and Perfect Escape (Ron Matheson).
