Trot Insider has learned that Standardbred Canada member Margaret Brooks passed away peacefully at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket on Wednesday, July 17 in her 81st year.
Beloved wife of Maurice Sr. for 58 years. Devoted and loved mother of Marilyn Williams, John (Nancy), Maurice Jr. (Diane) and Jeffrey (Sue). Grandmother of Jaclyn, Scott, Ryan, Colin, Joel, Taylor, Hailey and Laura. Great grandmother of Violet. Predeceased by her parents John and Mary-Anne Mifsud and by her brothers Tony and Ronnie. She will be fondly remembered by her brothers and sisters, Charlie, Josephine (Lewis), Mario (Mary), Katie (Fred), Paul (Mary), Helen (Vince), Phyllis (Casey), Leli (Christine), in-laws June (John) Butler, Lawrence (Sue) Brooks and her many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Margaret had a full life growing up and serving as a nurse in Malta, getting married, moving to England and then Canada in 1960 with her husband and children. They resided for many years in the Uxbridge–Barrie area and were greatly involved in the standardbred racing industry for many years.
Friends may call at Adams Funeral Home (445 St. Vincent St., Barrie) on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church (65 Amelia St, Barrie) on Monday, July 22 at 10 a.m. Interment will take place immediately following Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery (208 Sunnidale Rd, Barrie).
