Owners and trainers of horses entering the Spirit of Massachusetts Trot or Clara Barton Distaff Pace scheduled for Sunday, July 23 at Plainridge Park should note that the draw for those stakes will take place on Tuesday, July 18 and declarations must be made prior to 9 a.m. that morning. If you need to call the race office, the number is 508-576-4486.

Connections of horses that are not currently eligible but would like to now enter should be aware that a supplemental entry can be made to either event as outlined in the conditions of each stakes.

Anyone wishing to race in the Spirit Trot can pay the $20,000 supplemental fee at time of entry and if you want to compete in the Barton Pace, horses may supplement by paying $7,500 plus the $1,500 entrance fee at the time of declaration.

Other racing opportunities for those shipping in on Spirit day are available as the $75,000 Bert Beckwith Memorial Pace and a $25,000 Open Trot have also been written for that program. The full condition sheet is available at the USTA website.

All trainers participating at Plainridge Park must provide the following paperwork for their horses prior to the draw: a negative Coggins test dated in 2023; a health certificate within 30 days of transport with Plainridge Park as the destination; and proof of a EHV-1 vaccination for 2023. These documents can be emailed to the track at [email protected].

The judges can be reached for driver changes between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. by calling 508-576-4487.

All owners, trainers, drivers and grooms must have a valid 2023 Massachusetts Gaming Commission license and they can be obtained upon arrival. If you have any questions about licensing prior to your arrival, that office can be reached at 508-576-4565 on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday of this week.

One final note, the lobster food truck will once again be available in the paddock on Spirit of Massachusetts day.
