Tioga Downs will feature two divisions of the New York Sire Stakes for sophomore trotting colts and geldings on Friday (July 19). Gimpanzee will be making his third start of the year and will be looking to extend his career unbeaten streak to 12.

Gimpanzee (to be driven by Brian Sears) is the 3-5 early favourite in the $59,800 first division. The Chapter Seven colt is trained by Marcus Melander for owners Courant Inc. and S R F Stable. After having gone nine for nine as a freshman, Gimpanzee is still undefeated, as he has gone two for two thus far in 2019. He has recorded wins in the Empire Breeders Classic finals at Vernon Downs and in the NYSS at Yonkers Raceway.

The second early choice is the Jennifer Lappe-trained Mr Vicktor (Tyler Buter). The RC Royalty colt has won six times from seven starts this season. He is owned by Lappe, Robert Santagata, Diamond Pride LLC and Joe Lee. He has recorded NYSS wins at Vernon Downs, Monticello Raceway, Buffalo Raceway and Yonkers Raceway this season. The colt’s only blemish in 2019 was a second-place finish to Gimpanzee in the EBC final.

Cavill Hanover (Jim Morrill Jr.) has been installed as the 2-1 morning line choice for the $60,900 second division. The Muscle Mass gelding is trained Ake Svanstedt for owners Little E LLC, Borje Nasstrom and Wolfgang A Stable Inc. He has recorded a win, two seconds, and a third from six starts this season. The gelding has recorded four career victories.

Travel Winner (Tyler Buter) and Winnerup (Trond Smedshammer) appear to be Cavill Hanover’s chief rivals in the second split and have been installed as the 7-2 second choice on the morning line. The R. ‘Nifty’ Norman-trained Travel Winner is a colt by Credit Winner. He has recorded four wins this season for owner James Fleming. Winnerup is trained by Smedshammer for the Purple Haze Stables. The colt by Credit Winner has recorded NYSS wins at Vernon and Monticello. He has a total of three wins this year and four career victories.

The 13-race card will start at 6:15 p.m.
