Preparations are well underway for the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame 2017 Induction Ceremony and Gala Fundraising Dinner on August 9. The menu has been chosen, the rings and awards will arrive any day, and the auction committee is hard at work gathering a wonderful collection of items for guests to bid on as part of the live and silent auction.
This year, with the support and generosity of members of the Canadian racing industry, breedings to four top stallions will be offered as part of the evening’s live auction. Guests will have the opportunity to bid on stallion services for the 2018 breeding season by Thoroughbred Giant Gizmo, donated by Adena Springs, as well as Standardbreds Hes Watching, donated by Tara Hills Stud; Shadow Play, donated by the Shadow Play Syndicate; and Sunshine Beach, donated by the Sunshine Beach Syndicate. There will also be a wide selection of silent auction items for guests to bid on, including a collection of unique racing art, memorabilia, sporting event tickets and one-of-a-kind experience packages.
All proceeds from the live and silent auction support the ongoing efforts of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame to preserve and celebrate the history and heritage of Canadian horse racing. Additional auction donations are still welcomed and appreciated.
The gala will include the induction of Standardbred honourees Blair Burgess, Dr. Gordon Gilbertson, Elegantimage, Happy Lady and Mach Three as well as Thoroughbred honourees, Harold Barroby, Eugene Melnyk, Curtis Stock, Quiet Resolve and South Ocean.
The evening will also celebrate the 250th Anniversary of Horse Racing in Canada, including a nod to 2017 Legends Honouree Modesty. The horse who won the first race on record, July 1, 1767 on the Plains of Abraham.
Held at the Mississauga Convention Centre, co-hosting duties will be shared by Jim Bannon, CHRHF member and Woodbine Entertainment Group Thoroughbred Racing Analyst, along with Greg Blanchard, racing commentator and Raceway Manager at The Raceway at Western Fair District. In addition to the inductions and live and silent auction, the Gala event will feature a cocktail reception, and a four-course gourmet dinner.
The reception and silent auction will commence at 5:30 p.m., followed by a four-course dinner, live auction and induction ceremonies at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $175 per person, with a charitable receipt for $50 per ticket or $1,700 for a table sponsorship which includes eight tickets, a $300 donation to the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame and a total of $700 charitable receipts.
