The Thursday, July 16 card of live Standardbred racing at Woodbine Mohawk Park has been cancelled due to poor air quality.
Environment Canada’s air quality index for Milton, Ont. is listed as ‘High Risk’ and is expected to remain at this level throughout Thursday. Woodbine Entertainment’s decision to cancel the card comes through consultation with the Central Ontario Standardbred Association and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and is consistent with the AGCO’s air quality guidelines.
This cancellation has been made in the best interests of the health and safety of the horses and racing participants.
The Tompkins-Geers Stakes for two-year-old trotting fillies, scheduled for Thursday, will now be cancelled. Nomination and sustaining payments will be split among the entrants.
Woodbine Mohawk Park is planning to proceed with qualifiers on Friday morning. The start time will be pushed up half an hour to 9 a.m. Woodbine will continue to monitor the conditions and provide further updates regarding plans.
Live racing is scheduled to resume in Friday evening at 6:30 p.m.
