Longtime harness racing industry participant Murray Samons of Peterborough, Ont. passed away on July 6, 2025 at the age of 80. Born on December 27, 1944, Murray, a beloved member of the Peterborough community, lived a life full of love, laughter, and horse racing.

For 65 years, Murray dedicated himself to his passion as a harness horse driver trainer. He poured his heart and soul into his work, creating a legacy that will be remembered for years to come.

Outside of the racetrack, Murray enjoyed spending time with his wife Marion Samons, and their three children, Krista, Darryl, and Carla. Family was always at the centre of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

In his free time, Murray could be found surrounded by his numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren sharing stories and jokes that would fill the room with joy. His laughter was infectious, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Although Murray may no longer be with us, his spirit lives on in the memories and love he shared with his family and friends. Rest in peace, Murray Samons: you will always be remembered with a smile.

Donations are welcome to Peterborough Hospice in his memory and gratitude for the wonderful care provided.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Murray Samons.
