Saratoga Casino and Raceway, the Saratoga Harness Horseperson’s Association and U.S. Trotting Association have teamed up once again for the 2014 edition of ‘Back to the Track.’

The annual harness racing celebration will take place Saturday, July 12 at the track, with the first post time set for 6:45 p.m.

“This is an event that we look forward to every year, and we’re excited that the Saratoga Harness Horsepersons Association and U.S. Trotting Association are coming together with us once again,” said John Matarazzo, director of racing operations at Saratoga Casino and Raceway. “Back to the Track provides us with another opportunity to remind our fans about the world-class racing product we host here 10 months during the year.”

Back to the Track is a nationally-recognized event that celebrates the rich history of harness racing, while encouraging both casual and devoted fans alike to enjoy an evening of racing and other special events. Special racing events planned for the evening include New York Sire Stakes races and a Racing Under Saddle exhibition race where the drivers ride on the trotters like Thoroughbreds.

"We are witnessing a resurgence of interest in RUS by many horsepersons and fans which is helping generate a renewed following of the Standardbred industry," said Helene Gregory, RUS organizer and founder of Monte America. "The United States has been the leading country in harness racing for decades and I think it is time we follow up with a ‘Monte’ or RUS circuit. It's a great way to incorporate females and new fans into the sport of harness racing."

Guests will be receive free racing programs for the night that contain a voucher good for a free Back to the Track t-shirt while supplies last. In addition, there will be $1 deals on hot dogs and sodas, opportunities to take a ride in the starting car, tours of the announcer booth and paddock area, as well as a driver and horse meet and greet. As always, parking and admission to the harness track are free.

“We’re very grateful to Saratoga Casino and Raceway and the USTA for continuing to support our efforts,” said SHHA President Barry Segel. “We’re excited about the 2014 edition of Back to the Track and believe the NYSS and Racing Under Saddle races will help showcase all the excitement that harness racing has to offer.”
