Last year’s champion filly will butt heads with Atlantic Canada’s fastest mare again Thursday evening (June 10) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval will host a 12-dash presentation beginning at 6 p.m. (EDT) Thursday evening.
Fresh off an incredible track- and Atlantic-record performance last week, Ladylike will find herself with pylon control in the $3,100 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace in Race 11. David Dowling will be at the lines for trainer Colin Johnson and owner Debbie Element of Village Green, sporting her new speed badge of 1:53.2 taken last Thursday. The daughter of Shadow Play lowered the former 1:53.4 track and Atlantic record for aged pacing mares set by Whitesand Artist in 2014.
A close second in last week’s record mile was Woodmere Skyroller, who put together the richest three-year-old season ever in Atlantic Canada in 2020. That champion daughter of Rollwithitharry has post 2 in Thursday’s contest with Gilles Barrieau providing his driving services for the filly’s second seasonal start. The Marc Campbell-trained duo of Dreamfair Zenfire (To be driven by Jason Hughes) and Arc Light (Campbell) have posts 3 and 4, respectively, while Larjon Legacy (Corey MacPherson) has post 5.
Peter MacPhee will look for Woodmere Skyroller to step up one position this week, calling her on top of his Post Time Picks. “Woodmere Skyroller raced great last week just missing at the wire in a track record mile,” MacPhee said. “It looks like she may be able to pocket ride in here and with Barrieau on board they could go one better this time.”
The evening card also has a pair of trotting features with a $2,700 Fillies and Mares Open Trot in Race 8 and a $2,700 Horses and Geldings Open Trot in Race 10.
