Updated: Joseph ‘Joey’ Roberts Passes

Nineteen-year-old Standardbred groom Joseph ‘Joey’ Roberts of London, Ont. passed away on Thursday, June 4 after having succumbed to injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Arrangements for a Tuesday, June 9 visitation and funeral have been set and a 'Go Fund Me' account has been created to help his family cover the costs of the services.

A brief article by AM 980 explains that Roberts was involved in a single-vehicle accident near Tillsonburg, Ont. and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The report also states that Roberts was travelling with an unidentified male that was ejected from the vehicle but only suffered what has been described as ‘minor’ injuries. The article states that Roberts was driving the vehicle which hit a hydro pole.

Roberts is the son of longtime groom/trainer Mary Paulic, who has worked for numerous stables in Ontario.

An obituary for Roberts – which is posted in its entirety here – states that visitation will be held at FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 1997 Dundas St. E. (at Wavell) London, ON on Tuesday, June 9 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Funeral service will be in the chapel at 1 p.m. Interment at Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery. Donations may be made to a charity of choice, in memory of Joey.

Joey was predeceased by his dad, Richard 'Dick' Roberts (2013). Loving son of Mary Paulic and partner Russ Ellis. Cherished brother of Victoria and Jacob. Much loved grandson to Ana Paulic and Mirko Paulic, Roberta Roberts and Glenn Roberts. Adored nephew to Ronda and Mark Kerr, Daryl and Rasa Roberts, Paul and Stephen Roberts and Jerry Paulic. Joey will be missed by many cousins and friends.
