The top pacing mares in Eastern Canada will go bridle to bridle again Thursday night at Red Shores' Charlottetown Driving Park.
The program holds a 7:00 p.m. first-race post time.
The $2,200 class has yet to have a consistent weekly winner. Private Joke, who won last week’s event, has drawn Post 2 in this week’s edition (Race 11). Gary Chappell will drive the mare for trainer Earl Watts and owners Wade Peconi of Breadalbane and Windemere Farms and Jack Howatt of North Wiltshire.
Doober Hoozzitz, who has drawn Post 4, has been installed as the 5-2 morning line favourite after a gritty second-place finish last week. Terry Gallant will be in the bike for trainer Thane Mann and owner Fred Lamont of Calgary, Alta. Dirt Track Momma will look to extend her two-race P.E.I. win streak from Post 3 for driver Marc Campbell. The five-year-old E Dees Cam mare hails from the red-hot Moase Stable of Warren Grove. Other entries include Mylittlerebel (to be driven by Mark Bradley), Too Ideal (Brian Andrew), General Luckypercy (Ron Matheson), JK Special (Walter Cheverie), and Rose Vance (Katie Miller).
Race 3 will see a field of trotters line up for a $1,100 purse, with Scarlet Patti favoured early from Post 3 with Campbell at the lines for trainer Darry MacLean and owner Gordon MacLean of Winsloe. The former Atlantic Sires Stakes champion will likely face her toughest competition from JK Queen and Cheverie from Post 6 for owner-trainer Joe Smallwood. Also in the field is I Aint No Lady (Garth Cole), Hopedale Dora (Joey Pineau), BJ Eldorado (Kenny Arsenault), Anita Blossom (Brian MacPhee), BJ High Meadow (Bert Honkoop), and Dunmore Alpha (Ted Smallwood).
Last year’s Cecil Ladner Memorial champion, Arabica, will face a tough group of pacers in Race 7 on the card. Mike Stevenson will sit in the seat for trainer Anthony Stymest and owner Hardy Mill Stable. He will line up with Artners In Crime (Matheson), Camcun (Arsenault), Ovation Killean (Vaughan Doyle), JJ Maywest (Cheverie), Brief Bliss (Stephen Quinn), Capitalism (Jason Hughes), and Lisfinny (Norris Rogers).
Live racing will continue on the weekend at Red Shores with races at the CDP Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. and at Summerside Raceway on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
