The British are coming to Monticello Raceway on Tuesday, June 23

. Well at least those of English heritage will be coming when The Mighty M presents its third Mayflower Mile, a race for drivers of British heritage.

The event will be the sixth leg of the Raceway’s year-long Heritage Drivers Series.

The winning driver will represent the “Brits” in the series finale. He, or she, will be joined by all the previous Heritage Series race winners in what is being dubbed the All-American Pace which will be contested in early October.

When last presented, Chuck Poynton guided 20-1 shot, Im In, to victory in the race for drivers of British descent. Poynton will be back again to defend his crown.

Among the other drivers expected to compete include: Billy “Zeke” Parker, Jr, Gary Messenger, Bruce Aldrich, Jr., Gerry Fielding and Gareth Dowse.

“At this point we have a quite few drivers of English descent ready to compete, but we still can use more in order to have a full field,” Warner said. “Anyone with family origins which can be traced back to anywhere in the United Kingdom is eligible to compete in our Mayflower Mile as long as they have either a “P" (provisional) or “A” (full)” license from the USTA.”

Drivers who already have earned a berth in the series finale via their victories in the preliminary Heritage Series legs include: Jim King Solomon (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Pace); Doreen Dailey (Lady Godiva Pace); Jimmy Marohn, Jr. (St. Paddy Pace) PJ. Lutman III (Passover Pace) and Stephane Bouchard (Maple Leaf Pace)

Anyone with British heritage who would like to enter the Mayflower Mile is asked to please contact Eric Warner in the race office by calling 845-794-4100 ext. 557; or they can call the track’s public relations department at 845-794-4100 ext. 455.
