There will be a change in the racing schedule at Monticello Raceway during the month of July.
Two Friday cards have been added and the Wednesday, July 4 program will be in the evening with first post at 5:30 p.m.
Live cards on Friday, July 6 and Friday, July 13 will be added to the track's usual Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday format. The track's Wednesday, July 4 program will begin at 5:30 p.m. (the card will be followed by the track's annual fireworks display). All other first-race post times during the month of July will be at 12:50 p.m.
According to Eric Warner, the track's director of racing, the Friday cards were added to accommodate the raceway's horsemen.
“With the sires stakes and the Excelsior Series for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings carded for July 4, they figure to fill the majority of the races that day, so we added Friday, July 6 so our regular horse population will get a chance to race that week.”
Warner explained that the track also added a card for Friday, July 13 in order to accommodate the national 'Back to The Track' promotion and the raceway's second annual All-Amateur Day.
