Trot Insider has learned that Christine Cutting was injured while jogging a horse last week and suffered serious head injuries. She is a fighter and doctors are optimistic, even though it will be a long road to a full recovery.
Cutting, who was raised in the harness racing industry, is known to many on the backstretch as ‘Teen.’ Along with her mom (Melinda Smith), dad (Darryl Cutting) and brother (Jacob Cutting), Christine and her family have raced from Ontario to BC. The family has stayed together and worked together. The bubbly Teen is well known as a young lady with a smile and a helping hand for everyone.
Christine went out on her own to Fraser Downs a few years ago, and that’s where she met her partner, Justin Currie. After having raced horses in western Canada and the United States together, the couple settled in Airdrie, Alta. The duo definitively experienced some highs in 2017. Off the strength of a strong sophomore campaign, the duo’s then-three-year-old pacing colt Mateo was a finalist for an O’Brien Award. Although, the most cherished moment of their 2017 campaign came just 10 short months ago on August 12, as that was the date that their son, Jackson, was born.

Officials with the Alberta Standardbred Horse Association have informed Trot Insider that, along with the helping hands that horsepeople have provided, ASHA is setting up a fund to help Christine and her young family during this time of recovery.
