ORC Tweaks 2014 Race Dates

Published: June 20, 2014 04:29 pm EDT

The Director of the Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) announced the decision to approve changes to the Dresden Raceway (Dresden) and Rideau Carleton Raceway (Rideau) 2014 approved Race Date Schedules.

Dresden was approved to start their meet on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 (instead of June 29, 2014) to take advantage of the holiday and to better address horse supply issues.

Rideau applied for and received approval to move their June 29, 2014 race date to August 22, 2014. A major event is taking place on the grounds of Rideau over the June 29th weekend, making it impossible to service the date. The change to August 22 suits both the racetrack and the horse people; on August 21, Rideau will be hosting two Ontario Sires Stakes events and the addition of August 22 will provide more overnight racing opportunities during this time.

In addition, Rideau applied for and received approval to race 14 races on June 26, which will create more overnight racing opportunities surrounding the moved date.

For each of the racetracks, the change in scheduling does not impact on the total number of race dates being offered for the season.

A revised race date calendar for both Dresden and Rideau is attached.

Please be advised that you or any other aggrieved party have the right to appeal the Director’s decision to the Commission.
