After hosting 44 qualifier events over three days last week, Woodbine Mohawk Park returns this week with a total of 56 qualifiers spanned over a five-day stretch from Thursday (June 3) through to Monday (June 7).

Thursday’s session has pacing sophomores on the 14-qualifier docket. Qualifier 2 features the northside return of Highlandbeachsbest, an upset winner in a Metro elimination last year who ventured south with the Amanda Fine barn as racing in Ontario shutdown. He starts from post 4 with Louis-Philippe Roy listed to drive, while Ontario Sires Stakes (OSS) Super Final champ Bulldog Hanover goes from post 5 in his second qualifying mile.

In the qualifier following, another pair of prominent local horses step onto the track. No Better Joy starts from post 3 in his second qualifier off a season which included a fourth-place finish in the $720,000 Metro Pace. To his outside starts Desperate Man – a winner in OSS Gold prelims last year who rallied from last to finish fourth in the OSS Super Final.

Friday’s qualifier card features mostly trotting action for three-year-old colts, geldings and fillies. The morning’s third qualifier pins the OSS Gold filly trotting champ, Dashing Muscle, against the OSS Grassroots champ, HP Mama B. Both will step onto the racetrack for the first time in 2021, with the former starting from post 6 and the latter from post 1. Imextraspecial, a winner in multiple OSS Gold prelims and fourth in the $335,000 Peaceful Way final, also draws in from post 3 as well as Up And Ready, who finished second to Dashing Muscle, from post 8.

Best Head West goes her second qualifying mile of the year in Qualifer 5. The Bettors Delight filly paced a 1:56.1 mile with a :27.4 final quarter last week in her first go since scratching sick from the OSS Super Final. Winner of an Eternal Camnation division last year, the Bob McIntosh trainee starts from post 3.

Grassroots champ Four Wheelin and Rob Fellows’ quirky trotter Logan Park rematch in Qualifier 8. Logan Park got the better of the matchup last week, winning by a half length in 2:03.2, but will start from post 8 as Four Wheelin again draws post 6.

Saturday’s session features a mixed bag of pacing and trotting stock with several classy horses stepping on track. Millionaires Nirvana Seelster (Qualifier 1) and Nickle Bag (Qualifier 8) return on the pacing side, while the trotting side includes the return of HP Royal Theo (Qualifier 2) and Pemberton (Qualifier 4). Qualifier 6 features the North American debut of Darkangeldesbois F, a French trotter racing for Denis Gueriel from post 5.

Qualifiers return Monday at Mohawk with 13 events slated to go. The card gathers mostly overnight-class horses with some high-earning names including Tomy Terror ($459,680) in Qualifier 2, Cool Rock ($620,981) in Qualifier 4, Drachan Hanover ($532,995) in Qualifier 5, First Class Horse ($545,180) in Qualifier 8 and Outlaw Gunpowder ($411,124) in Qualifier 11.
