Trot Insider has learned Bill Tainsh, Sr. of Sherwood Park, Alberta, passed away on Tuesday, May 31
. He was 75.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Gladys, and children, Joanne, Bill Jr., David and Darryl.
Bill was born in Consort, Alberta where he took his schooling and graduated in 1953. He was well-know in the sports of curling and softball in Alberta. He was a member of the Hec Gervais rink that represented Alberta and finished second at the 1970 Canadian Men’s Curling Championship. Bill was also a member of a team skipped by Dr. Bill Mitchell of Edmonton that won the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in 1969. In 2008 Bill was inducted into the Softball Alberta Hall of Fame.
Bill had a deep love for harness racing and the horses themselves. Racing as Triple B Stables, Bill made many trips to the winner’s circle. Two of his favourite horses would have been Herbert Dundee and Marlene Dundee.
Bill was involved in many aspects of the sport, and was always willing to lend a hand. He volunteered the horse, Triple B Mistake, so Santa could take a trip around the track at Stampede Park in Calgary. He helped out at the children’s Christmas parties at Northlands in Edmonton driving his team around the track so all the children could enjoy a sleigh ride for Christmas. His love for harness horses carries on with his family. His son Bill Jr. has been very successful in harness racing and is currently a driver at Alberta Downs in Lacombe.
Funeral Arrangements have been made through Foster and McGarvey Funeral Home. Service will be held Monday, June 6 at 11 a.m. at Conelly-McKinley/Our Lady Of Peace Cemetery, 4820 Meridian Street, Edmonton.
