The top mares in eastern Canada will butt heads Thursday night at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
First-race post time for the 12-dash Thursday program is 7 p.m.
Andro Madi has drawn Post 3 in the Race 11 feature, fresh off her 1:56 victory in last week’s $2,250 edition of the Fillies and Mares Open. Dale Spence will drive the pacer for owner and trainer Jonah Moase of Cornwall. General Luckypercy (to be driven by Ron Matheson) has the rail and will attempt to shed her bridesmaid status after two runner-up finishes.
Other entries include Cool One (Mike Stevenson), JK Special (Kenny Arsenault), Stayoutofmyaffair (Jason Hughes), Prynne Hanover (Mike McGuigan), Dirt Track Momma (Marc Campbell) and Veronicavermillion (Brodie MacPhee).
The top trot of the night will line up for Race 5 for a $1,350 purse with Saulsbrook Balance favoured for driver Willie Murphy, trainer and co-owner Cindy MacDonald of Montague and co-owner Tanya MacKinnon of Souris. The nine-year-old veteran sports 44 lifetime wins and over $90,000 in career earnings. His biggest challenges look to come from Howmacs Pride (Campbell) and Majian Dilion (Jim Ripley).
The back-up pace will head to post in Race 7 with Van Zant favoured in the $2,100 contest. Ron Matheson co-owns and drives Van Zant for trainer Jackie Matheson and co-owner Tom Clark of Charlottetown. He will have his hoofs full dealing with challenges from tough overnight horses like Every Day (Brian Andrew) and Tempo Seelster (Vincent Poulton). Cheyenne Ford (Arsenault) also comes into the race fresh off a 1:58.1 victory in his Island debut after racing the Woodbine Entertainment Group circuit, in Toronto, all winter.
