The Meadowlands Racetrack will return with live action this Friday (June 15), as the East Rutherford, NJ oval is set to present a nine-race card that will get underway at 7:15 p.m.
The overnight mix will be highlighted by a few Hambletonian eligibles sprinkled throughout the program, including a very interesting Jimmy Takter pupil. Takter has a barn load of horses eligible to the ‘Hambo,’ including a few intriguing prospects that have kept a very low profile – Zephyr Kronos among those.
By the International Classic-winning sire Ready Cash, Zephyr Kronos raced twice at age two, but Takter and company recognized the talent enough to put the colt away early and count on time to season him.
The early returns would lean toward that being time well spent; and though Zephyr Kronos still requires careful handling and has been driven by the trainer in all starts this season, the speed is evident. He has exhibited a wicked turn of foot on several occasions with sub-:27 final quarters a regular occurrence on his past performance lines.
The pair will start from Post 2 in Race 2, which will feature a short field of six. He'll find a pair of potential Hambo rivals in Dawson Springs and U Need Stones amongst his competitors.
Zephyr Kronos is owned by Al Libfeld, Marvin Katz, Perry Soderberg and Christina Takter.
Friday night’s ninth and final race will feature a carryover for the ‘Big M’s Late 20-Cent Jackpot Super High-Five, which now stands at $252,765.
