Jack Heywood Passes

Veteran horseman Jack Heywood passed away Wednesday, June 9 at Victoria Hospital in London, Ont. after long-fought battles with cancer. He was 81

.

He is survived by his six children, Randy, Debbie, Larry, Brenda, Ralph and Elaine. Dear brother and brother in-law of longtime horsepeople Bev and Diane Heywood of Windsor, Ont. and Beatrice of Exeter, Ont.

Jack is predeceased by brothers Dalton (Lilly), Eldon (Alva), Lavern and Raymond (Alice).

He will be missed by his 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, as well as many friends in the auction and racehorse communities.

With over 40 years as a driver/trainer in the standardbred horse business, Heywood achieved many accomplishments.

He trained the top three-year-old pacing filly WC Della and the top three-year-old trotting colt Linwood Worthy, as well as Iron Horse of the Year Wilcos Hustler.

Heywood received recognition as Non-Driving Trainer of the Year in 1991, with more than 10 Ontario Sires Stakes wins.

Anyone that had ever been to a Heywood Auction is fully aware that Jack was one of the most entertaining auctioneers in the business. For over 30 years he entertained auction enthusiasts in the London area as well as horse auctions from Vancouver to Nova Scotia.

Heywood will be missed by family and friends

Heywood's family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, June 16 at 3:00 p.m. A visitation will be taking place one hour prior to service, at Exeter Bible Chapel, 187 Huron St W N0M-1S2 Exeter, Ont. Bob Heywood will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Exeter Bible Chapel or charity of your choice.
