Red Shores Pacers To Clash Thursday

The competition will be brisk, but E R Quinn will look to return to his Thursday night throne after the feature event this week at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park.

The Thursday evening program will have 11 dashes on tap. The first race will head behind the starter at 6:30 p.m.

E R Quinn will be saddled with Post 6 in the $2,400 feature, which has been carded as Race 10. Gilles Barrieau will be back in the race bike for trainer Jeff Holmes and owners Orwell Bay Stable of Orwell. In his last start, E R Quinn failed to earn a cheque, which is first time that has happened since the pacer relocated to the east coast.

Hes Marvalous was sharp in his latest outing – a third-place finish – after a three-week absence from racing for driver Myles Heffernan Sr. He will start from Post 5 on Thursday evening, while early rail control will belong to Likely To Win (to be driven by Adam Merner), who is fresh off of a second-place finish in last Thursday’s feature.

Race analyst Les MacIsaac thinks E R Quinn can turn his luck around this week. “E R Quinn got as close as third last week before packing it in, and you know the eight hole was a contributing factor,” MacIsaac said. “Since the improved post could provide a much better beginning, we could see a return to his Thursday night dominance.”

The field will also feature Three Truths (Kenny Arsenault), Harbourlite Jerry (Steven Shepherd) and Perfect Escape (Ron Matheson).

Star Photo will attempt to remain perfect on ‘red soil’ in the $2,400 Open Trot (Race 6). Jason Hughes will drive the Kevin Gilles trainee from Post 7. He won his first east-coast appearance in 2:03.1 over an off track last week for new owners Robi Hughes, Eric and Blair MacLauchlan and James Perrot. Buckaroo will return to island racing and will start from Post 1 with Marc Campbell in the bike. Fellow Campbell stablemate Freddie will start from Post 7. Walter Cheverie has picked up the catch drive.
