Hoosier Park Racing & Casino, in partnership with the Indiana Standardbred Association (ISA), will host the annual Girl Scout Day at the track on Friday, June 12. The event gives more than 200 young women the opportunity to see live racing and learn more about various facets of the racing industry.
“This is one of our most popular events,” Hoosier Park’s Racing Administrator Cortney Bridwell noted. “It’s a lot of fun to get the Girl Scouts and their families out to Hoosier Park and show them a part of the racing industry they may have never seen before. The ISA does a great job showcasing all the different aspects of horse racing and of course, the girls love to see the horses up close.”
The Girl Scouts will have the chance to get a “behind the scenes” look at horse racing through backside tours provided by Hoosier Park’s drivers and trainers. Each of the tours will visit Hoosier Park’s stabling area and give the Girl Scouts an opportunity to learn about harness racing from one of Hoosier Park’s top trainers.
The ISA will also offer demonstrations of the various aspects involved in harness racing throughout the evening. The demonstrations will include veterinary care, equipment information, and a live photo opportunity with a retired race horse in the front-side paddock.
Hoosier Park’s Champion drivers will also be on hand throughout the evening to sign autographs and answer questions for the Girl Scouts and their families. The Champion driver meet and greet will start at approximately 5:30 p.m. near Hoosier Park’s winner’s circle.
Other activities will include a bounce house, face painting, craft station, live entertainment, games, and winner’s circle giveaways. The official Hoosier Park mascot, Hoosier Buddy, will be on hand to entertain.
Live racing on Friday, June 12 will start at its’ regularly scheduled post time of 5:15 p.m. The 14-race card slated for Friday will be highlighted by the $21,000 Invitational Trot and the $21,000 Invitational Pace for fillies and mares, races 10 and 12 respectively.
