The Prince Edward Island horse industry has been saddened with the passing of horseman and industry leader Albert Bernard.

Bernard operated a public stable at the Charlottetown Driving Park for four decades, following his late father Emmett into the racing industry. He was the youngest driver to compete in the Gold Cup and Saucer at the time, and was the leading driver/trainer at the CDP on numerous occasions.

Among the many quality aged horses he campaigned was the three time Gold Cup and Saucer starter Stetson Any Size, and former Sackville Downs Trot record holder Captain Jamie.

Bernard enjoyed great success as a developer of top Atlantic stakes competitors such as Beauty Greenwood, Spin N Dandy, Enersave, Island Ribbon, Island Paragon, Island Kaptain, Miss Lori, and the winner of the first $50,000 stakes race in the region, Dandy Gal.

Bernard was also a former President and longtime Board member of the Hillsboro Trotting Club, the operators of the Charlottetown Driving Park, and a former Board member of the PEI Colt Stakes Association.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Albert Bernard.
