Trot Insider has received the visitation and funeral arrangements for Doug Harkness, the Dean of Maritime harness racing
, who passed away on May 28.
Visitation will be taking place Friday, June 4 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Campbell’s Funeral Home, located at 98 Church St., Amherst, NS. The funeral home can be contacted by telephone at 902-667-9906.
The funeral service will be taking place Saturday, June 5 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Amherst, NS.
For nearly four decades, Harkness, who was 71 at the time of his passing, was the heart of Atlantic Post Calls, providing Eastern Canada with racing news, features, and his trademark op-ed pieces. Doug's commitment and love for harness racing in the Maritimes will be his indelible legacy.
Standardbred Canada Director Ross Galbraith, who was well acquainted with Harkness, shared many of his memories and reflected on Doug's devotion to the sport in a podcast earlier today on cbc.ca.
