Hippodrome De Quebec's Final Card Sunday

After 114 years, it's the end of the line for horse racing at Hippodrome de Quebec

.

Sunday afternoon's standardbred card will be the last at the facility, which is being supplanted by a new arena.

Quebec City was home to one of North America's oldest races, Le 5 Milles, a five-mile marathon.

"Leaving Quebec wasn't in our plan," said Quebec Jockey Club president Tony Infilise, "but we appreciated that the facility was made available to us to lease since 2010, which has been very helpful to get the QJC going without a major capital investment.

"We are sad to see such a long tradition come to an end and will do everything we can to attract horse people and horse racing fans from the Quebec City area to Trois-Rivieres once that transaction closes."

The QJC is in the process of buying Hippodrome Trois-Rivieres and plans to open five betting parlours in the province before the end of the year, two of them by the end of July. Its intertrack betting parlour in Quebec City will remain open.

The QJC has also issued press releases highlighting the Sunday card and giving a history of the raceway. To view the QJC release, click here.

In other news from Quebec, there has been an update regarding the conditional nomination payments for the Lucien Bombardier Stakes for two-year-old pacing fillies.

The Lucien Bombardier, which is contingent on the Quebec Jockey Club acquiring Hippodrome de Trois Rivières, is scheduled for Sunday, September 30. It had been previously announced, in error, that the Lucien Bombardier had been scheduled for September 28.
