Grand River Raceway will host its second annual Tri-Pride Night at the Races when Friday night racing kicks off on June 1

.

The event also marks the start of Tri-Pride Weekend in Kitchener-Waterloo and Cambridge and is highlighted by horse racing’s only Drag (Queen) Race.

In last year’s inaugural edition, Madison Heart and accompanying driver James MacDonald were the winning pair aboard 11-year-old pacer Pompus Mac Daddy. When asked of her thoughts about the experience in a post-race interview, Heart said simply, “I have dirt in my lipstick.”

MacDonald and Heart will defend their title against returning queens Nadia Diamond and Jasmine Flowers. Newcomer Sydney Savage rounds out the field, earning a berth in the already infamous race when she was recently crowned Miss Tri-Pride 2012.

Tickets are $30 and include dinner in the Captain’s Quarters dining room and a penny auction in the main lobby. Proceeds benefit Tri-Pride. Last year’s event raised more than $2100, making it one of the most successful fundraisers in the organization’s history.
For more information, including how to buy tickets, visit the Tri-Pride Night page.

The Tri-Pride Drag (Queen) Race is an exhibition race, and will follow Race 6 on Friday night (approximately 8:55 p.m.)

Grand River Raceway races on Fun & Frivolity Friday Nights from June 1 through October 12, in addition to its Monday and Wednesday schedule.
