Ralph Carroll Passes

Published: May 3, 2018 02:16 pm EDT

With broken hearts, the family of Standardbred horseman Ralph Carroll, 57, has regretfully announced his sudden passing, which occurred on Monday (April 30).

Carroll had been part of the provincial racing industry for decades. He worked as a trainer in Toronto-area stables before he relocated to eastern Ontario. He bred, raised and trained Standardbreds until roughly three years ago when rheumatoid arthritis made it impossible for him to continue training.

Ralph leaves behind his wife Judy (Maitland) and two daughters Jessica (Logan Reid) and Sydney. His sisters Betty (Kenny, deceased) Marchand, Geraldine (Mike) Beavis, Patricia (Frank) MacPherson, Margaret (Lorne) Slade, Darlene Cuddihy, Carmella (Ray) White, Catherine (Phillip) Andrews and brothers Michael (Heather) and Patrick all from Nova Scotia, as well as many nieces and nephews. Ralph was predeceased by his parents Gerald and Carmella Carroll and brother Colin.

Ralph’s passion was breeding, raising and training Standardbreds. He truly enjoyed the company of family and friends and will be missed by many.

Cremation has taken place. The family asks that a pay-it-forward gesture of kindness be extended in Ralph’s honour.

An open invitation is extended to family, friends and neighbours to share time this Sunday (May 6) at the family home (2296 County Rd 16, Merrickville, Ont.) from 1:00 – 4:00 in the afternoon.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lannin Funeral Home, Smiths Falls, Ont.
