Thursday night racing will commence this week (May 16) at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park and E R Quinn has been pegged as the one to beat in the featured race during the 10-dash program.
The first race of the evening will head behind the gate at 6:30 p.m.
The $2,600 feature has been carded as Race 9. E R Quinn will line up in Post 3 with Gilles Barrieau driving for trainer Jeff Holmes and the Orwell Bay Stable of Orwell. The seven-year-old son of Total Truth will be making just his third start on red soil since relocating from Ontario. E R Quinn’s first outing was a front-end romp, but he was unsuccessful while trying the same tactic in his latest start, which resulted in a fourth-place finish.
Forever Paradise has been out of commission for over 16 months, but will make his first start back with rail control in the event for driver John MacKenzie and trainer Kevin MacLean. Dream On Dream On will make his Maritime debut in Race 9 for trainer-driver David Dowling and owner Kayla Habicht Walker of Inverness, NS. A winner of 17 races and $108,000 in purses, Dream On Dream On was racing the claiming ranks in Ontario before being claimed for $8,500 by Walker.
The track’s race analyst, Les MacIsaac, is banking on E R Quinn making a return to his winning ways. “E R Quinn dominated from start to finish in his local debut, but he wasn't quite as impressive last week when he faded late,” MacIsaac said. “He'll likely be on the lead again and with some rated fractions he's eligible to rebound.”
Tempo Seelster (to be driven by Ken Murphy), Likely To Win (Adam Merner), Winter Blast (Corey MacPherson) and IC True Grit (Mike McGuigan) are also scheduled to be in the field.
Red Shores’ first trotting race of the season will take to the track for Race 5 on Thursday and will feature the return of Freddie. The $2,200 Handicap Trot will see Freddie start from Post 5 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owners Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston. Newcomer Scary Good (David Dowling) and Suicide Shift (Steven Shepherd) will also be in the field.
