Richard ‘Dick’ Dailey Passes

Horseman Richard ‘Dick’ Dailey of Mount Vernon, Ohio passed away on Monday, May 9 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus at the age of 64.

Dailey was born November 16, 1951 in Mount Vernon, the son of Harold and Edna (Mills) Dailey. Dick was a 1970 graduate of Mount Vernon High School and retired in 2012 after 23 years of employment with Rolls-Royce.

Dick began his career in Standardbred racing as a trainer and blacksmith in the Mount Vernon, California and Florida areas before establishing Diamond D Stables in Mount Vernon. He conditioned the likes of Melvins Gift, Go Boy Gold Star and Starred By Brett, but the highlight of his career was training the 1973 Little Brown Jug winner, Melvins Woe.

The news of Dailey’s passing comes courtesy of an article by The Mount Vernon News which states that Dick and his wife, Evowne, have hosted and ran the Farmstead Poker Run for the last 16 years. The poker run has been able to donate over $250,000 to Hospice of Knox County and other charities.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Evowne (Garrett) Dailey; his daughters, Amy Dailey of Gambier, Dennise (Ryan) Lepley of Mount Vernon and Victoria (Joe) Linn of Gambier; a son, Isaac Wilson III; nine grandchildren, Michael and Christopher Durst, Kendal, Keaton and Ellie Lepley, Isaac Wilson IV, Kayla, Kimber and Chloe Linn; and a brother, Kevin (Lynne) Dailey of Valrico, Fla.

Friends may call Friday, from 2 - 7 p.m., at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, where a funeral service will be held Saturday, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Ben McKinstry officiating.

Memorial contributions in Dick’s name may be made to the Farmstead Poker Run in care of the funeral home.
