The Board of Trustees of the New Jersey Sire Stakes has established once again a purse structure for the upcoming Premier Division season which is based upon the number of entrants in a race.

Legs will be contested for $25,000 if there are five or more entries. If less than five horses enter a leg, the purse will be $20,000.

Premier Division finals will carry a purse of $120,000 if there are less than five entries; $160,000 if there are between five and seven entries; and $200,000 in the event eight or more horses are entered in a final race.

“Once more the Board has chosen to place its available resources to the classes that will have the most participation,” noted Sire Stakes Executive Director Chris Castens. “In addition to increasing the value of all legs over last year’s numbers, purses for the finals are up 60 percent in each of the categories thanks to a legislative appropriation which allocates $1.2 million to Sire Stakes purses for each of the next five years.”

The three-year-old Premier Division season will begin at The Meadowlands on Friday, May 17 while the two-season will commence on Friday, June 28.

The Board of Trustees has also announced revisions to the purse estimates for the Standardbred Development Fund races to be raced this fall at Freehold Raceway. All legs will be contested for $10,000. All finals will be valued at $70,000 in 2019.
