Longtime harness racing historian Hugh Howard 'Hughie' Graham of Montague, P.E.I. passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Kings County Memorial Hospital with his beloved wife Jackie and family by his side.
Hugh was born in Montague on November 27, 1947. He was the son of the late Frank and Edna (Daly) Graham. Hugh is survived by his son Michael (Tracy Corish); brothers and sisters-in-law Carol Richards (Harold), Gary Cummings (Beth), Robert Cummings (Meryl), Jean Drake; nieces and nephews Jane King (Don), Arthur Daly, Mitchel King (Crystal), Ashley Higginbotham (Steven) and Leah Daly. Hugh was predeceased by brother John Daly.
Last month Graham was honoured with a Heritage Award from the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation Heritage Award. Graham started studying Island harness racing in 2009, and two years later that work culminated with a harness racing exhibit and presentation at a museum fundraiser which led to new documents, exhibits and items for the Garden of the Gulf Museum in Montague.
Resting at Ferguson Logan Montague Funeral Home with visiting on Tuesday, April 11 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Service to take place on Wednesday, April 12 at 11:00 a.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to take place in Lower Montague Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only, donations to St. Andrews Lodge No. 13, Sick Children’s Auction would be appreciated.
