Fans and horsepeople are advised that Vernon Downs will add Thursday programs to its racing schedule beginning May 1. Also, Vernon has announced details regarding a handicapping contest that will also be kicking off Thursday.
First-race post time for Thursday cards will be 6:45 p.m., consistent with the Friday and Saturday evening start time.
This Thursday features a 10-race program, headlined by an $8,000 Miracle Mile 2-3 event for distaff pacers. Artic Byrd (to be driven by Truman Gale) and Market Dynamics (Rick Plano) headline the field of nine mares which will contest the ninth race on the card.
In addition to the usual offering of 50-cent trifecta, Pick 3, and Pick 4 wagers, this Thursday's program at Vernon marks the beginning of the $1,500 Showdown handicapping contest. Players select one horse on each night of racing, advancing to the next night if their selected horse finishes third or better. The last contestant remaining wins the $1,500 first prize.
