It's been a busy couple of weeks in Lansing, and tremendous progress has been made in the fight to save racing in Michigan
.
On Wednesday, April 25, the House Agriculture Committee, chaired by Rep. Kevin Daley, passed HB5546 out of committee; and on Thursday (April 26), the Senate Agriculture Committee, chaired by Sen. Joe Hune, passed SB1075 out of committee. This is encouraging news for Michigan's struggling horse-racing industry, but is just the start of a tough battle to get this legislation passed. The help and support of all involved in the horse racing industry is needed.
In a video presentation that first aired at Northville Downs on Friday, April 27, Brett Boyd discussed the pending legislation and stressed the importance of everyone doing what's necessary to get this legislation across the finish line. To that end, we will be holding legislative action meetings at four different locations across the state on Monday, April 30 at 7:00 p.m. These meetings are designed to help prepare horsemen for the fight ahead.
If you race or breed horses in Michigan, serve or supply the industry, or just want to do your part to help ensure that our industry will survive, make plans to attend one of the following meetings on Monday evening (7:00 p.m. at all locations). Your help is required if we are going to get this legislation passed.
