Loren Proefrock Passes

Loren W. Proefrock, 90, of Lincoln, Ill., passed away on April 23 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.

He was born May 1, 1926, in Petersburg, Ill., the son of Carl and Anna (Hagel) Proefrock, He married Darlene Reiss on Feb. 12, 1949 in Altamont, Ill. She preceded him in death.

He is survived by his sons, Dr. David (Vicki), Dean (Traci), John and Jim (Marlo); eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and two brothers.

He assisted his wife as secretary/treasurer of the IL Big 10 Colt Association from 1981–2005, and he continued with the Big 10 on his own from 2006-2008. Darlene clerked several fairs in Illinois with her husband and son, John, including Taylorville, Decatur and Lincoln. Proefrock was also the secretary/treasurer for the Logan County Fair Board for many years and they were very involved in bringing the two-year-old Downstate Classic Stake to the Logan Co. Fair in 1995.

Proefrock retired from Illico Independent Oil Co. as a comptroller in 1995. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Lincoln American Legion Post #263. He proudly served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corp.

A memorial service will be held on a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Friendship Manor or The Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Services have been entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.
