A meeting to be held on Thursday, May 6 at 8:00 p.m. at the Reach Centre, Clinton will include speakers on the opportunities and challenges associated with solar power, as well as on current electricity payment programs available.

Featured speaker, Don Hilborn from OMAFRA, will speak on various options and initiatives for solar power in Ontario. A representative from the Ontario Power Authority has also been invited to share information on the microFIT(feed-in tariff) program and various green energy options.

There is a great deal of interest in the recently announced microFIT program in which farmers and rural landowners are asked to consider the benefits of generating green energy from renewable sources such as the sun, wind, water or bioenergy, and selling it for a guaranteed price. Prices for energy fed back into the grid, varies from 10.3 cents per kilowatt hour to 80.2 cents.

“I see many community benefits for increasing our capacity for green energy,” stated Joan van der Meer, project manager for Mid-Western Ontario Regional Green Jobs Strategy. We are creating jobs and additional income today and impacting our community’s ability to provide for its energy needs in the future”.

The evening meeting is a precursor to a larger Green Energy Expo. that will be held at the Reach centre on November 6 and 7.

The show, which is presented by various local partners including OMAFRA, the Reach Centre, Ontario Federation of Agriculture and Huron Business Development Corporation, will include a trade show, speakers, and an energy related film series.
