Yonkers Raceway has announced a sizable, across-the-board purse increase, beginning next Monday, April 25
.
Effective next week, all condition races (including those with optional claimers) go up 15 per cent, while all straight claiming races increase by 10 per cent. After the hike, purses range from $10,000 for the bottom condition up to $43,000 for the three weekly Open Handicaps.
Also of note, the "non-winners of 2" class now has a $20,000 lifetime earnings ceiling (up from $10,000), while the "non-winners of 4" class increases to $40,000 life (up from $20,000). Those races shall now go for $12,000 and $15,000, respectively.
"Our ongoing stakes and series races not only attracted standout horses, but also allowed us to replenish the purse account for overnight races," general manager Bob Galterio said. "We've very pleased to offer the new purse structure as we continue to present the best harness product around."
