After much deliberation, Robert Burgess of Campbellville, Ont. has decided to have a dispersal sale of his entire 29 mare standardbred breeding operation.

According to a statement issued on Thursday, the broodmares "are 100% owned by Mr. Burgess. " The dispersal sale shall also include all 2014 foals but shall not include any members of Mr. Burgess' racing stable or any broodmares or foals owned in partnership.

The Claude Brault Agency has been appointed to handle this sale. All questions are to be directed to Mr. Brault, who can be reached at 905 520-3941 or [email protected] for more information.

This comes as sad news, Bob you are a class act and will be missed in the breeding business. My hope is you will continue to speak out and represent the standardbred horsemen and breeders of Ontario. Your efforts are very appreciated by this individual. All the best.

What does this mean for the future of harness racing in Ontario???????,when one of your best representative's is throwing in the towel???? Have a good day..

When a standardbred breeder of Mr. Burgess' stature in this business sells his breeding stock, we should all be concerned about the longevity of our entire business prospects! I continue to hear of hard working people losing their livelihoods, or read about them on this website. Forcing our colleagues of all categories to quit or sell their holdings because of questionable strategies by those in charge is one of the biggest wastes of TAXPAYING citizens I*ve seen in these troubling times. We need more taxpayers in this province... not less, to pay for all these grandiose schemes I keep hearing about. Am I disgusted ? You bet!
