Wilbur ‘Bun’ Zendt Passes

Standardbred horseman Wilbur R. ‘Bun’ Zendt, 99, of Mifflintown, PA, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Born March 7, 1920, in Walker Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Howard and Sylvia (Lauver) Zendt. His wife, Kathryn (Cleck) Zendt, whom he married March 29, 1941, passed away on October 31, 2003.

Zendt is survived by three children: Cinda Lauver (Larry); William W. Zendt (Leslie) and Jan Lauver (Joe); eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

A farmer all his life, Zendt also trained and drove Standardbreds from 1949 until recently.

He was a member of Centre Lutheran Church and also attended Cedar Grove BIC Church. He was a member of Walker Grange.

Zendt enjoyed playing the keyboard, hunting, travelling, spending time with his family, and drinking coffee with his friends at ‘the barn.’

His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday (April 16) at Cedar Grove Brethren In Christ Church, 287 Deerville Road, Mifflintown, PA, with Rev. Kenneth Hepner and Rev. Mike Sigler officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Although there will be no viewing, the family will receive friends on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the services.
