Add another name to the list of harness racing families producing top hockey talent, as a player with ties to Standardbreds was selected in this past weekend's OHL Priority Draft.
Tanner Sheppard, a 15-year-old goaltender with the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs of the OMHA, was drafted in the seventh round (126th overall) by the Hamilton Bulldogs. Tanner is the son of Tod & Robyn Sheppard of Dundas, and his uncle is horseman Kelly Sheppard.
Sheppard, who didn't start playing goal until his Peewee year, posted a 14-1-3 record for the Jr. Bulldogs Minor Midget squad with two shutouts and only 34 goals allowed in 35 games.
