The annual Meadowlands Summer Mixed Sale will be held this year on Sunday, July 29, the day after the eliminations for the $1-million Hambletonian
.
The sale, presented by Tattersalls Sales Co., is back to its more traditional spot on the calendar after being held on Hambletonian weekend last year.
“We think elim weekend provides the best opportunity to draw the largest crowd to the sale,” said manager David Reid. “Many out-of-town horsemen are in for the entire week, and it’s much more convenient for buyers and consignors alike. Plus, it gives owners time to evaluate two-year-olds, and if they have one that’s early and want to sell, a late July sale gives them that opportunity.
“That being said, the time of year really doesn’t seem to matter quite so much anymore,” Reid added. “If you’ve got a nice, quality racehorse and you’re wanting to sell, the buyers will be lined up.”
Last year’s Summer Mixed Sale again showed a very strong market for racehorses, according to Reid, as the sale average was up almost 15 per cent from the previous year, with horses selling for up to $150,000.
Entries for the sale are already being accepted. Those wanting to consign should call the Tattersalls office at 914-773-7777 or email [email protected]. Entries will close in late June.
