Longtime harness racing industry participant Dan Johnson of Windsor, Ont. passed away on April 4, 2026 at the age of 76.
Dan was well known as a fantastic trainer and driver with Standardbred horses. He retired from driving in 2015 with 5,204 victories and more than $25 million in purse earnings.
Beloved husband to Elizabeth (Betsy) Johnson, father to Dana Johnson. Preceded by his parents Bert & Betty Johnson, survived by his sister Karen Schwager. Brother-in-law to John & Judy Dent, Don & Betty Dent.
Preceded by Helen & Angus Dent, Maree-Kay Campbell, Doug McFarlane, James Dent, Bill Dent and Tony Schwager.
As per Dan’s wishes there will be no funeral.

Dan was a very nice guy and a top driver for many years at Hazel Park and Windsor Raceways. Dan always gave you his best on the racetrack. He was my go to driver for several years at those 2 tracks and we were very successful. My condolences to his family.
