Douglas ‘Doug’ Hill Passes

Trot Insider has learned that horseman H. Douglas ‘Doug’ Hill, who was instrumental in the starting of the Charlottetown Driving Park and stakes programs in the Maritimes, passed away on Sunday, April 9 at the age of 91.

Hill, a veteran of World War II, passed away peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with his family by his side. He jogged horses just weeks before heading into the hospital.

Beloved husband of the late Rosemary (nee Rogers). Loving father of Rosemary (Dennis) Compton and James (Tracy) Hill. ‘Grampy’ to Sarah, Stephen (Olivia), Elizabeth, Sophia, Matthew (Ashley), Cameron and Emma. ‘Great-Grampy’ to eight great-grandchildren. Brother of Roberta (the late Ike) Elkin. Predeceased by sisters Marjorie and Edith and brothers Donald and Jack.

Resting at MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel. Funeral Thursday from Zion Presbyterian Church at 10 a.m. Interment in Sherwood Cemetery.
