Trot Insider has learned that longtime trainer/driver David Dewitt ‘Dave’ Cameron, who relocated to Nova Scotia from Saskatchewan in 2018, has passed away at the age of 82.

Cameron passed away on Thursday, February 28 at Dykeland Lodge, which is a care facility located in Windsor, NS.

Cameron raced across Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta throughout his career with the horses, which spanned decades.

Dave is survived by his wife of 38 years, Judy; his son, Shane Mattice; brother, William Cameron; sister, Dorothy Baum, as well as several nieces and nephews.

As per his wishes, Dave's body has been donated to Dalhousie University Department of Medical Neuroscience.

With his passing, Dave has left a big hole in the hearts of his family that will never be filled. He has gone to be with his mother and his first son – may he rest in peace.

There will be no funeral service, although a memorial service will be held in 2020 by Dalhousie University.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to cover the bills related to Dave’s medical care. Any monies raised beyond the amount of the medical bills will be donated to charity. To visit the GoFundMe page, click here.
