Steve Fields Passes

Trot Insider has learned that veteran Canadian Trotting Association/Ontario Racing Commission presiding judge Steve Fields passed away on March 29, 2009 in Haines City, Florida at the age of 82

.

Fields, originally from Presque Isle, Maine, came to work with the Canadian Trotting Association judges’ pool in 1973 as a presiding judge. He presided at Greenwood, Mohawk, Windsor and Flamboro in Ontario, and in Alberta at Stampede Park and Northlands Park.

In 1979, Fields transferred to the Ontario Racing Commission where he was one of their best senior judges. He had a fair and even approach to officiating and treated all participants with respect and equality.

Fields retired in 1985 when he and his wife Opal moved to their retirement home in Haines City, Florida. He is survived by Opal and two sons, Alan and Peter.
